What is a Boil
Boils
Boils are excruciatingly painful bumps that appear on your body and are filled with pus. Boils alway form
under the skin and are difficult to cure. They are caused when bacteria infects a hair follicle. A follicle is where a hair forms.
Boils can and may occur anywhere on the body. Most often they are found on the face, neck,
armpits, buttocks and thighs. A boil often lasts about 14 days, but some can last much longer.
Signs of Boils
A bump or open sore that:
#1 Shows up quickly and grows large usually within a day
#2 Is Whit, Red or Yellow in the middle at the apex
#3 Will drain puss when broke open
#4 Grows and swells
#5 Is warm
#6 They are extremely tender and painful
Best way to care for Boils
• Personnel hygiene
• Caution is urged against picking or squeezing , as this may send the infection to other areas to be reinfected
• To aid in reduced swelling , a clean wet and warm rag could be applied
When you need to start paying attention to your boils . That would be anytime but if you notice the following you should have a plan of action
• You notice that things just keep getting worse
• A boil that is super painful , beyond the usual agony
• A boil that has not healed in 14 days
• A boil that is larger then normal ,,,, most people who get boils have had them before so they have a good size gauge. If this is a first time boil , and your approaching the size of 1/2 a golf ball i would be very concerned
• If the infection has entered your bloodstream red lines will be noticed , almost like coming out of the skin of the boil
• More boils – Like a boil farm starting
• A fever – Usually a fever indicates your body needs to kill something with heat
Talk to your doctor or nurse if you have any questions or concerns.
